It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Shops hopefully are busy as people make last minute dashes to buy presents for their loved ones. There are lots of stories making newspapers and magazines regarding deep fried Christmas delights such as sprouts and pigs n blankets which is all good publicity for us all.
We’ve had a great time here at Chippy Chat in 2019! I cant believe that in 2020 Chippy chat will be ten years old! We are planning lots of surprises to celebrate this milestone.
We started the year crowning Papas as our Field to Frier Champions at the 2019 Fish and Chip Awards. Myself and John Boutwood (Isle of Ely Produce MD) visited their shop on Cleethorpes Pier in April. Not only have they bought the shop but they also bought the pier. It is incredible to see over 400 people enjoying fish and chips in one venue.
Our Isle of Ely Open Day this year was the best yet. Due to the amount of interest we doubled in size and used two of our potato stores for both exhibiting and for our speakers to present from. The visitors were taken to see AL Lee & Sons impressive farm set up and here about the latest challenges and trends direct from the horses mouth!
In all we had over 150 people attend. If you would like to attend in 2020 as a shop owner/manager or supplier please email austen@chippychat.co.uk. Spaces as always will be limited.
Next up we promoted fish and chips in our annual ‘Potato Race’ here in Ely. Top chip shops and farmers came together to raise money for charity as competitors ran down the high street with 20kg of potatoes on their backs.
Finally we have just held our 2019 Chip Barons’ Ball. The entertainment this year was provided by Queen 11, the most decorated Queen band in the UK. If you would like to attend in 2020, please let us know. It will be held on Sunday December 6th.
