Fish and chip fans in North Devon have yet more sustainable options to choose from, following the successful Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification of Lynbay Fish & Chip Restaurant in Ilfracombe. The shop is only the second in North Devon to be MSC certified.
The news means the restaurant can now use the MSC ‘blue tick’ label on its cod, haddock and plaice, assuring customers that the fish sold has been responsibly caught using sustainable methods.
A favourite among locals and holidaymakers alike, Lynbay first opened in 1996. Father and daughter team Paul and Fleur Prideaux strive to offer sustainable fish wherever possible. Supporting the local community is a priority for the pair and each week, one meal, side and drink is donated to the local food bank. The restaurant also prides itself on being family-friendly and provides televisions and iPads to occupy little ones while waiting for their meal.
Co- owner, Fleur Prideaux, explains what the news means, “Supporting our local community is really important to our business and MSC certification is just another way of doing that. By serving sustainable fish, we’re helping to protect fish stocks. This means not only our customers but fish lovers everywhere can continue to enjoy fish long into the future.”
George Clark, UK Commercial Manager at the MSC, adds, “Thanks to Lynbay Fish & Chips, the sustainable choice for fish and chips fans in North Devon is growing. MSC certification shows their customers that they care about the future of the oceans and assures that the fish is sustainable and responsibly sourced. It’s great to see the team at Lynbay flying the flag for sustainability and we hope other fish and chip shops will follow their lead.”
Choosing MSC labelled seafood from fisheries, retailers, brands and restaurants guarantees sustainable, traceable methods and helps protect the life in our oceans for generations to come.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ el_class=”sticky-container “][mnky_ads id=”113795”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
