Have a Good Fryday!

Updated: May 10, 2023

Fish & Chip Shops Getting Ready for Busiest Day of the Year!

As one shop said on their socials today is like Christmas Eve for them. Good Friday is traditionally the busiest day of the year for fish and chip shop owners and a great day to attract more regular patronage from increased footfall.

Whilst most people are prepared to wait longer on Good Friday some shops are making sure that their customers are looked after on this special day.

Hungry people queuing for their lunch at a fish and chip shop in Seaton Sluice will have live music to keep them company this Good Friday. For the fifth year in a row live entertainment will be provided outside The Harbour View for people waiting in line, a process that has taken an hour in previous years.

This year the services of a musician playing hits from the 50s up to the present day on guitar will be employed between noon and 3pm.Manager Waseem Mir said: “It is our busiest day of the year and my staff are all geared up to getting the queues down as fast as possible.

“I have ordered around three times our normal quantity of prime Icelandic Cod and extra potatoes to meet the demand. “We will also allocate each deep fryer to takeaway meals meaning that the restaurant will be closed during the weekend.”

There’s No Catch!

A Belfast city centre restaurant has announced it will be offering free fish and chips on Good Friday

Catch, which serves fresh seafood and is located on Wellington Street, made the announcement on its social media on Tuesday.

It said it had made the decision due to the “high popularity” of a previous free fish event, and that the first 100 customers to come to the restaurant between 12pm and 1pm could avail of the offer.

The restaurant’s fish are all caught from local waters, including Strangford Lough, and is prepared each morning. It also has vegetarian and vegan options.

Andrew Crook NFFF President said. “Good Friday provides us a great opportunity to showcase our amazing product. Fish and chips and Easter go hand in hand and the weather gods seem to be looking after us so I hope everybody has a fantastic and busy weekend.”
