Flick and Chips!

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Take Nothing For Granted!

Austen Dack

For the past few years Seafish have worked hard to gain a slot on National Award Winning show This Morning for the winners of the flagship Fish and Chip Shop of the year award. With its millions of viewers the subsequent publicity is great for all fish and chip shops.

The National Fish and Chip Awards is such a great platform for this industry. They say you make your own luck, and Tim and Kelly Barnes have worked so hard for this opportunity, but even they couldn’t have dreamed of the star guest they were about to serve.

The top turn on the show today was none other than film star Richard E. Grant who has just received his first Oscar nomination at the tender age of 61. So Oscar Chippy Owners met Oscar Nominated Star.

Overall, the nomination has knocked him a little sideways.

“I’m absolutely astonished. Absolutely gobsmacked,” he tells Eamonn and Ruth.

“From where I grew up…it is just beyond anything I could ever have really imagined for myself. So I’m thrilled. Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled.”

Your fish and chips are ready says Eamonn! Richard accepted them with gusto and absolutely loved them, actually saying WOW, as he bit into his piece of fish.

There will be many more great things happening as the year develops Tim and  Kelly im sure, but who could have asked for a better start.

Other observations are Eamonn can’t find a decent fish and chip shop inside the M25. We need to rectify that and get him along to some of London’s finest, the other being i actually think he would make a great host (of the awards), although with this being the 31st event, someone will tell me he has already done it!

Owned and operated by husband and wife team Kelly and Tim Barnes, Krispies beat off competition from nine other finalist shops to clinch the title, which has led to previous champions doubling their turnover in the twelve months following the announcement. Krispies were also successful in the Staff Training and Development Award category.

The National Fish & Chip Awards is a UK-wide competition celebrating true excellence in the fish and chip industry. Hailing from across the country, entrants are judged on far more than just the fish and chips they cook and serve. Sustainability, menu innovation, catering for special dietary requirements, customer service and marketing activity are all part of the package of what makes an award winning fish and chip shop. Krispies consistently excelled in all of these areas throughout an intensive eight month judging period, which included multiple mystery shop visits and a final presentation to a panel of industry experts.

Tim Barnes, owner of Krispies, said: “What a journey this has been and what an incredible way to top it off by being crowned UK’s Fish & Chip Shop of the Year! We love the awards and we’d recommend anyone in the industry to enter. It teaches you so much about your business, not just showing you areas where you could improve but also highlighting how good you already are, something that people find hard to see when they run their own business.

“Krispies has come so far since we opened 20 years ago and we can honestly say it is a dream come true to win this award. But we didn’t do this alone, we are so proud of our team and what they have achieved. We want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their hard work and faith in us. We are so excited to be looking after this prestigious award for the next year and we will do everything we can to honour its reputation before passing it on to another worthy winner next year.” [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″ el_class=”sticky-container “][mnky_ads id=”3659”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
