Owners Tim and Kelly Barnes are celebrating after the Exeter Road business netted another accolade from the National Federation of Fish Friers.
Husband and wife team Tim and Kelly Barnes, of Krispies Fish and Chips, are celebrating joining the chippy ‘elite’ after scooping a top award for quality.
The shop, in Exeter Road, Exmouth, famed for its battered chips, has been presented with a National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) quality award for the second time running.
The accolade – awarded every two years when food and customer service has ‘remained constantly excellent over a number of years’ – is held by around 250 fish and chip shops nationwide, putting Krispies among the UK leaders when it comes to fish and chips.
Tim said: “We are delighted to be awarded the quality award for the second time running. It shows that over the last two years our standards have not dropped and that our customers can rely on our brand and the quality and consistency of our food.”
He added: “We have had quite a year – first we won the From Field to Frier award, which recognises that we make and serve the best chips in Britain, then we were on BBC TV in March.”
Kelly added: “The NFFF award is only awarded to establishments producing high-quality fish and chips in a first-class environment, so we are extremely proud to be part of that elite group of shops and we will do everything we can to remain there for many years to come.”
Before the awards were announced, Krispies was rigorously assessed against strict benchmarks set by the NFFF, including food traceability and sustainability, quality, cleanliness of equipment, working practices, health and safety, management and customer service.
‘Particularly high praise’ was heaped on Krispies for its ‘unique’ 120-page operations manual, given to all staff members to retain consistency and professionalism. It details every aspect of running Krispies Fish and Chips, including cutting chips and the cleaning rota.
Gregg Howard, NFFF training and accreditation manager, said: “Krispies clearly takes pride in where it sources its fish and potatoes from.
“Achieving the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award provides reassurance to customers that they are being served cooked food using high-quality ingredients.”
