One of the UK’s best chip shop chain owners had a shock yesterday as one of her stores was almost struck by a wayward bus. The eponymously named shop (part of a chain of seven) on marketplace Wetherby had the close shave, as the bus lost control and mounted the pavement and hit the shop next door.
The incident caught on CCTV would have been more serious if it had happened later on a busier day of the week, when customers often queue for the popular shop’s award-winning fish and chips.
Wetherby Whaler Director Caroline Murphy said, “We have had lots of messages of concern regarding this incident. Thankfully no one was hurt, and all of our staff are fine albeit a little shaken by the incident. If it had been later in the week then things could have been a lot worse. There is much speculation about what happened, but we will let the accident and emergency team find the reasons behind this incident.”
