Bog Off Black Friday Is Back At Highland Chippie…

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The Real Food Cafe in Tyndrum is taking a squatting stance against consumerist driven Black Friday by raising funds for the charity Toilet Twinning.

The café is one of a growing number of philanthropic organisations using the day, usually associated with unadultarated consumerism to highlight the needs of others.  From yesterday (to mark World Toilet Day) until Black Friday (24th November) the café will be raising money for the second year running for the world Toilet Twinning project which is working to bring safer sanitation and clean toilets to the 1 in 3 people who are without across the world.

The Real Food Café team have made special muffins with brilliant blue icing and the Toilet Twinning’s squatting man for the occasion; and £1 from the sale of each £2.85 muffin will be donated towards building a toilet for a community that needs one: the equivalent of a Black Friday discount. Customers can also buy a Real Food Café travel mug for £8.50 and receive a muffin free, with £2.00 going to the charity.

The Real Food Café’s owner Sarah Heward, the driving force behind the campaign, says:

“Most of us take having a clean toilet to use for granted but one third of the world’s population don’t have somewhere safe to go to the bathroom. The cost to build a toilet and install proper sanitation to a community is just £60 and last year we twinned all the toilets in the café with a toilet in Malawi through our fundraising. This year we hope to continue to help flush away poverty; and when better to help others who have nothing than a day when we’re encouraged to overspend on ourselves.”

The Real Food Café team are no strangers to helping a good cause, holding an annual Boxing Day Dip to support local charities, and hosting riders of the Breast Way Round in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. An iconic stop on the West Highland Way, much loved amongst outdoor enthusiasts, tourists and locals alike; The Real Food Café goes the extra mile in the community and for its customers. Award winning fish and chips, a Coeliac UK accredited gluten free menu, an electrical car charger, and handmade dog biscuits for their four legged guests are just some of the things that things that make this roadside diner a little bit different to the average pit stop.
