A chip shop manager from Bridlington has taken a dip in a bath full of batter to raise money for Children in Need and Chippy Chat played a starring role.
Lucas Atkinson, manager at Audrey’s Fish and Chip Shop, spent four hours in the bath tub as the store raised cash for the charity.
Other store staff were dressed up and out with collection buckets while Mr Atkinson lay in the batter outside the Queen Street chip shop. More than £300 was raised for the charity.
Restaurant owner James Morrison commended his store manager for braving the cold in the bath tub.
“It was my manager’s idea to do it. He’s going to be covered in batter, and sat in the tub from 12pm to 4pm.
“We had collection buckets with him outside the store, and he’s been collecting sponsorship too. We were please that customers donated, as it’s a great cause he was doing it for.
“Our other staff were out with him, dressed up, trying to spur him on and collect some money.”
Mr Morrison said they used warm batter to make sure Lucas did not catch hypothermia.
“It was just Lucas doing it. He’s far braver than I am, it was freezing on the day, about four degrees. We were planning how we could raise money for the charity, and he just came up with the idea.
He said: “I think we used 25 kilos of flour to make the mix, and he was pretty messy by the end of it.
“He’s a great example of our values here, and hopefully his bravery helps us promote the shop.
“We were serving food as usual so people who came down for some chips, might have had a bit of surprise to see the manager swimming around in batter.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3” el_class=”sticky-container “][mnky_ads id=”2782”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
