MP Harriet Cross visits Garioch Fish Bar

The NFFF has been urging fish and chip shop owners to contact their MP's to tell them about their struggles in the hospitality industry. Well ours contacted us about our National Fish & Chip awards success and then followed it up with a visit.

When Harriet Cross MP wrote to us recently little did she think that two weeks later she’d be in the shop learning how it’s all done and frying fish.

Harriet’s an MP that actually listens to what you have to say and we discussed the pressures on fish and chip shops up and down the uk.

Last year we lost over 1000 chip shops due to spiralling costs of fish,oils, power and staff.

We believe the government are actually a sleeping partner in all our fish and chip shops taking 20% of all our gross sales and then telling us what to pay our staff.

Then they don’t seem to listen to our problems as the wage increase and the employers NI Contribution’s have been the final straw for many businesses with 89000 jobs lost in hospitality since the last budget.

However hats off to Harriet for actually listening to my points and I’m sure she’ll get our points across in her normal way.
