Richard Ord MBE and Jade Thirwell given Freedom of South Tyneside
Singer JADE and restaurateur Richard Ord MBE, both of South Shields, have been given the Honorary Freedom of South Tyneside.
Richard Ord MBE, owner of the award-winning Colmans Fish and Chip restaurant and Seafood Temple, was honoured for his exceptional entrepreneurship, philanthropy and services to the hospitality industry.

Council members have recognised musician Jade Thirlwall for her outstanding contributions as a cultural ambassador to the area, as well as her ongoing commitment to South Tyneside.
Richard Ord MBE is the fourth-generation owner of Colmans Fish & Chips and Colmans Seafood Temple, and has made a lasting mark on the hospitality industry and the community. His commitment to sustainability and regeneration in South Tyneside saw Richard receive an MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours in 2020. He also received an outstanding achievement award at the national Fish & Chip Awards too.
Jade champions South Shields Football Club and is a strong supporter of The Customs House, where her talent was nurtured. She is an ambassador for the local Cancer Connections, and supports homeless causes and Stonewall, while advocating for equality and inclusivity.
Councillor Tracey Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “The Freedom of the Borough is one of the most prestigious awards, and the highest honour, that the Council can bestow, reserved for individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to our community.
"It’s great that Jade Thirlwall and Richard Ord, two outstanding ambassadors for South Shields, have been recognised with these honours. Their achievements and dedication have brought pride and inspiration to our Borough."

“Richard Ord is a shining example of the very best of South Tyneside. His dedication to our community, his pioneering work in hospitality, and his unwavering support for local causes, has earned him admiration and respect, making him a true champion of the town. These honours shine a light on the spirit and positive impact both Jade and Richard have on our local community."
"Bestowing this honour upon Jade Thirlwall has marked a truly proud moment for South Tyneside. Her journey from her early days in South Shields to achieving global success with Little Mix and now as a remarkable solo artist is a real inspiration to us all. This honour not only celebrates her incredible talent but recognises Jade’s achievements and the positive impact she continues to have on our town.”

Austen Dack Chippy Chat Publishing Editor said: “Richard is one of the nicest people you would ever wish to meet. He is always willing to improve listen and learn even though he has a remarkable business and is always there if you need some advice. Both him and his family deserve this honour, and the area is very lucky to have them.”
