Zero Plus Fish Bar’s Double Delight!

Go Zo!

Zero Plus Looks to Break Records on National Fish & Chip Day

If it wasn’t enough celebrating National Fish & Chip Day (May 27th) by giving away half price chips in this climate, one South Wales shop is planning to go one step further.

The Award Winning Zero Plus Fish Bar in Cardiff will be attempting to break the World Record for wrapping five bags of chips. Owner Zohaib Hussain is in training as we speak and is quietly confident that the record will be his.

Zohaib said to Chippy Chat “We wanted to do something that will shine a light on Cardiff, and also give our customers a great offer too. The challenge is a difficult one as you have to portion up 5 bags of 350-gram chips and wrap them all in at least two pieces of paper.” In practice Zohaib has managed 42 seconds with the current record standing at 44 seconds, so with the added pressure of doing it on National Fish and Chip Day the result is going to be very close.

The current holder of the record is Stephanie Celik, who set a record of 44.43 seconds in Maltby at The Blue Whale chip shop in front of a crowd of supporters in 2018.

Helping Zohaib on the day will be his long-standing potato supplier R&M Potatoes. Zohaib uses the Famous Black No1 Markies supplied to R&M Potatoes by Isle of Ely Produce and grown exclusively by A L Lee Farming Company in Cambridgeshire.

Russell from R&M said “We have been supplying Zero Plus Fish Bar for many years and they always ask for the best potatoes available. Black No1 Markies are a premium consistent chipping potato and so we send them to Zohaib.”

Billed as the biggest food awareness day of the year, National Fish & Chip Day is about giving fish and chips the recognition it deserves and helping to secure its position as the nation’s favourite dish.

The event is run by trade association The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA), which represents packers and distributors of oils and fats in the UK. It usually takes place on the first Friday in June and is being held a week earlier this year because of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
