NSC Sponsors National Fish & Chip Day

The Norwegian Seafood Council

Proudly Supports National Fish & Chip Day

The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) is proud to support this year’s National Fish & Chip Day, which falls on Friday 27th May. Billed as the biggest food awareness day of the year, National Fish & Chip Day is about giving fish and chips the recognition it deserves and helping to secure its position as the nation’s favourite dish.

The event is run by trade association The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA), which represents packers and distributors of oils and fats in the UK. It usually takes place on the first Friday in June, and is being held a week earlier this year because of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Hans Frode Kielland Asmyhr, UK Director of Norwegian Seafood Council, says: “We are delighted to sponsor National Fish and Chip Day this year. We have worked closely with the fish and chip industry in the UK for many years supplying sustainable frozen-at-sea cod and haddock of the highest quality, and this is an important opportunity to celebrate our longstanding relationship.”

Norway is home to the world’s largest cod stock, consistently supplying around one third of the UK’s cod and haddock. For many years, Norway has been at the forefront when it comes to maintaining and regulating sustainable fisheries. By choosing Seafood from Norway, fish and chip shops can be confident that they really are serving their customers the best quality sustainable seafood.

Commenting on the event, Gary Lewis, President of NEODA, adds: “National Fish & Chip Day has become more popular each year and in 2022, as a warm up to the Queen’s Jubilee, we want it to be even bigger!  It’s a celebration of the stars who work hard to bring Brits their favourite traditional takeaway.  We want to bring the whole industry together to celebrate and showcase the great British institution that is fish and chips.”

Both Gary and Hans will be present at one of NEODA’s special roadshows on the day itself. This one is in Cambridge and has been organised by Isle of Ely Produce and Chippy Chat Publisher Austen Dack. They will be giving away via top mobile chippy 500 portions of fish and chips. Other roadshows are happening in Wales and Scotland to mark the day.
