“Don’t feel pressured to take cash – we don’t live in that world anymore”, says Director of top fish and chip shop, Krispies
The surge in cashless payments and online orders is the start of a new era for takeaways which should be embraced, according to the latest Women in Fish and Chips Vlog.
In the second instalment of the Vlogs series, Award-winning fish and chip shop Krispies shared its experiences of the lockdown and its successful move to online ordering.
Kelly Barnes, Director of the Exmouth-based chippy, said, “We will become a cashless society by the end of this.” Her business has been selling 200 portions of fish and chips a day since re-opening with a click and collect, and click and deliver service.
“Moving online has helped us to serve as many people as we can, safely. That’s why we are still saying no to walk-ins.”
Kelly adds that shops should not feel pressurised to do more than they are “comfortable” to do. “Don’t feel pressurised to take cash. We are not living in that world anymore.”
Despite the many challenges that restaurants and takeaways are going through, Barnes is confident that the fish and chip sector will come out of this “even stronger”.
“If you have a good brand and an amazing product, your customers will still be waiting at the end of it all,” she said.
