This is the first time I have seen this format – it is terrible. I was pleased at first that there was the Log-In page… then all personal details were mandatory – including POTATO SUPPLIER?!

I can’t see me logging in much more if it stays the same – not having a quick search button which shows ‘New Posts’ is annoying also.

At 59.5% profit (Robin) or 66% profit (ginger), it doesn’t look like a bad item on the menu, but for me I just don’t think it would sell fast enough. I don’t think we have ever had anyone in the shop ask for it either.

Personally, I would go to all three. Get prices / proposals from each manufacturer and then you have more information to make your decsion. Be clear in the beginning that you have had a quote from Hewigo and that you would like to consider what they have to offer, and what features or spec makes them better? Put the ball in their court to demonstrate that they offer value in comparison.

Once you have prices, consider after-sales support. Being in Ireland is going to make things difficult for fast response so you need a Company who can guarantee response times as well as demonstrate the rates for that support (as of today). There may even be a Maintenance Contract you can negotiate which takes the pain out of lump payments and also gives you preferred status so you get support faster than the man off the street with no Contract.

Can’t say that we have had that – opposite in fact. Mondays are our lowest average takings based on takings divided by hours open. Trade is very good this year.

They might work with you to Contract this kind of Service – they aren’t too far from Norfolk.

Oil (Crude) will not rise as fast as August might let you think (although I wish it was back up at around $80/bbl for my own selfish reasons). It has broken through the $50 mark this month, and if it manages to stay there, it won’t go much higher. The reason is to keep USA’s shale gas stocks in the ground – at around this price it isn’t viable and therefore USA must import.

I haven’t been on for a while, but all seems to be normal so guess it was just a temporary switch to a new format forum?

I remember him now! Back in the days when CC was busy and a little entertaining…

Been away for 3 months, came back on today to see what I had missed and not even 1 page of new posts.

We moved to Induction last year… 2 reasons:

    1. Very easy to clean and look after
    2. I have far more counter space now because we got rid of the fixed gas hob, and bought a counter-top induction hob which can be put away in a cupboard or up on a shelf when not in use.

    I’m FSB too…

The problem is, you don’t see the benefits of being members of these organisations until you have problems. People just see them as an unecessary cost.

How did you feel about Scottish when they wanted to be ‘out’?

I’m certain that Europe are looking at us thinking the same right now.

Totally depends. If for doing so, I get consistency, a share of their labour when i’m short staffed, a helping hand if my business slows down, and discounted raw materials because together our purchasing power is larger, then maybe it isn’t so bad.

If a guy then turns around and says he wants his own independent chippy in the town, can you imagine our joint group of chippies making it very easy for him? Can you imagine that it will be easy for him to break-out of the deal? Will customers go to that guy for their fish and chips or will they go to the joint group because the product is more stable and consistent?

The whole point is we will be able to deal with the rest of the world better then we can now.
And all this scare mongering that we can’t is rubish because others need to deal with us just as much as we need to deal with them.
And if any doubt about success outside the EU look at the sales China has done to the world!!

You cannot at all compare us to China. We cannot come close to what they can offer as has already been said in this thread. They have a huge cheap labour pool, very poor standards of work / living etc. which all mean they can bust out a product much cheaper than we ever could.

In fact, we don’t really have much to offer as trade or export compared to a lot of Countries in EU and beyond.

I’m not saying however that we would have any problems striking trade deals etc. – I’m just saying, i’m not sure that we probably have more import than export and our closest neighbours will be the ones we turned our backs on… so I can’t imagine those deals to be very good.

Grumps, the way it was before wouldn’t work today… it’s long gone. You need to look forward and what is best now for the UK and how that fits with the demands of society and the rest of the world.
